Tesla Powerwall 2.0 Press Release
Eighteen months ago, Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, made plans to release Powerwall: a rechargeable lithium ion battery designed to store energy in a residential setting. Two versions were available: Powerwall: a 6.4 kilowatt-hour model with a price tag of $3,000 and a 10 kWh version priced at $3,500.
Tesla’s Powerwall stores electricity generated by solar panels and draws power from the utility grid when rates are lower to store for later usage. Powerwall also has the advantage of powering your home when the utility grid is down during utility blackouts.
When announced, Tesla received nearly 40,000 preorders for Powerwall.
At the end of October, Tesla announced the arrival of Powerwall 2.0, with a price tag of $5,500. Elon Musk has reportedly said an even newer version it will store 13.5 kWh of energy, giving it twice the energy and twice the storage as the previous Powerwall version.
Powerwall has two versions: a 6.4 and a 10
Tesla hasn’t yet announced when Powerwall 2.0 will be available.
